Unos 30 jóvenes de la vanguardia artística cubana agrupados en la Asociación Hermanos Saíz (AHS) comenzaron este domingo 12 de agosto el ascenso al Pico Turquino, la mayor elevación de Cuba, ubicada en la Sierra Maestra (oriente).
La hazaña ya es tradición en esta fecha por el Día Internacional de la Juventud, víspera del cumpleaños del líder histórico de la Revolución, Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016) y el asesinato de los jóvenes luchadores cubanos Luis y Sergio Saíz Montes de Oca (13 de agosto de 1957).
El histórico sitio resguarda el busto de José Martí, nuestro Héroe Nacional, obra de la escultora Jilma Madera, colocada allí por la heroína Celia Sánchez Manduley junto a su padre, en 1953.
En la cima del Turquino, la representación de la vanguardia artística cubana rendirá tributo a quienes dieron su vida en las distintas etapas de la lucha por la independencia de la Patria. (Fuente: ACN)
